3 chemin de Lartigue, Puydarrieux, Hautes-Pyrénées

Well. we are finally living in the house. A lot of major work will have to be done over the next few years, but for now, we are making the most of the house and its tranquility, before the first digger gouges open the grass.

For the week before the removals truck arrived, we cleaned, painted and prepared the house to be filled with our possessions.

Deep joy in the cleaning department

Our precious clutter sees the light again

There were a lot of maintenace jobs to be done too. Our forecourt was often full of vans and trucks as chimney sweeps, grass mowers, plumbers and carpenters came to do their duty.

Trying to find the leak around the chimney stack. No luck.

We are making the house cosy and slowly finding places for most of our stuff. Paintings are hanging, shelves are full and our furniture fits so beautifully in its new setting.

The furniture looks like it has been there forever,
just like the old lady at the table.

Replacing our leaky letterbox

We are now getting quotes for the removal of earth and placing a drainage system around the house. This will also include adding a septique tank. Hopefully we shall get it done before the end of the year. Caroline can't plant anything until it is done, since the tractors and diggers will probably turn the grounds into a mudbath of trenches and piles of earth. Hmmm.

Our first guests are arriving soon. Caroline's parents are staying for a few weeks in a makeshift bedroom. The rest of our visitors have been advised to sleep elsewhere until the facilities are a little more civilised.

We'll keep you posted.
