Caroline's cousins Jacqueline and Marc found a chambre d'hôtes business in the Charente Maritime. It offers 5 guestrooms each with their own bathroom and a fully equipped gite. Set at the edge of a small village called Soubran, it has a swimming pool terrace with an impressive view over the valley. They offer table d'hôtes a couple a times a week, where you can join them for dinner and a glass or two of wine. This is a great half way house en route for us.

Cardeillac, the 'Gite in the Gers', is a great place run by Marie and John Perrin. The enclosed courtyard, large gardens and new swimming pool provide a secluded ambiance in the little village of Haget. The gite sleeps 6-9 people and is just twenty minutes from Marciac for the jazz in August and an hour from the ski lifts of the several nearby resorts in the Pyrenees.

The Domaine à Marmande is a chambres d'hôtes close to Mirande (about a half hour drive north of us). Run by Charles (US), his wife Caroline (NL), it is positioned peacefully up a country lane and set among the maize fields. The interiors are warm and Mediterranean and they have a separate gîte for those who wish to self cater. Charles also offers his talents as a shaitsu and acupuncture specialist.
